May 12, 2010

Today's reading: II Chronicles 21, 22, 23; Psalm 12, 42, 72, 102, 132; Proverbs 12

II Chronicles 21:8, "In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king."

I was watching the television earlier and a popular sit-com came on. For some reasong I sat and watched it. I was amazed at how the male father figure was made to continually look like an idiot. It made me so angry that I could not even put it into words. I remember one instance where the father had said something about one of his children and the child overheard it. The mother told the father to go upstairs and apologize to the child. As he started to leave the kitchen to go upstairs the mother demanded to know what the father was going to say to the child. He said to her, "I am his father and I don't have to run it by you!" A terrible argument ensued and he cowered in fear and began to tell her what he was going to say. In this sit-com the mother runs the show.

It is much like the people of our Scripture for today. They did not like being ruled by the King of Kings so they got an earthly king like the other nations. Now we see the Edomites do not like being ruled by king Jehoram so they just rebelled and set up their own. I was caught by the phrase, "and made themselves a king". I know this means they picked their own king; but, I could not help thinking about how people today make themselves "king" of their own lives.

It is sad that the day we live in people are doing everything they can to erase God from our history. We who are born-again believers need to stand up and defend our faith because one day soon it will be far too late.

So friend, who is running your house? Is it Jesus? I hope so.

How are you doing?
